And the Oscar goes to…

I've looked at loads of Christmas window VM over the past weeks. A lot of the big International retailers with sizeable budgets didn't really hit the mark for me. The Oscar de la Renta store on Madison in Manhattan was a stand out. A spot on brand moment and, I'm guessing, highly likely to be a very cost effective exercise. Via Oscar's PR girl.

All the world’s a stage…

Lula Mae attracted plenty of attention with her debut performance at Melbourne Central (a pop up store made from cardboard and embellished with fab illustrations). Her new store is a more permanent structure that still plays on theatrics (my first thought was that it might have been inspired by the Speigel Tent given it is such a hit on the Melbourne arts scene). The shop front harks back to a long gone vaudville era, rich red velvet stage curtains frame the fashion event that is playing in store, canvas backdrops and trees prop the threads on the program. So different. So not boring. So refreshing. So love it. So thank you Lula Mae.  BTW ... I assume this is also a collaborative effort by Breathe Architecture (they did the pop up) ... I was in a hurry and didn't have time to stop and chat to the staff. Would love to know more about who and how collaborated on this one so, if you know, let me know!  Lula Mae, Level 2, Melbourne Central.

Step and repeat

A clever Converse brand conversation happening whilst the store was under construction at Melbourne Central. Love the look now the hoarding is down too!

Get yourself some new threads

Monster Threads (a collective for indie illustrators to sell their wares) has opened a bright new store at The Galleries in Sydney. Compared to their Causeway Lane closet in Melbourne this one offers a lot more space to peruse the product. A super friendly young man was being most helpful behind the counter (I liked that so much I made a purchase to kick start my Christmas shopping - lordy it really is that time of year again).  You can find them  on street level at The Galleries, 500 George St Sydney.

Urban dweller

Urban by Target opened on Chapel Street last weekend. Nice identity work by Canyon in St Kilda.

Is this on Target?

If you happen to be in Manhattan today then you could pop into Target's pop up for Missoni. It's open for 3 days only (8-10th Sept) as part of Fashion's Night Out. The 400 piece range will be available in store from Sept 13th. I don't know about you but for me there are some brands that just shouldn't go there (collaborations with the 'cheap and cheerful' end of town ... or as my No. Niece described these collaborations as they just started to emerge a few years ago [at the same time rolling her young cynical eyes] ... "oh that's the bogan-isation of luxury"). It sort of naffs me off that the original, full price, Missoni bath towels hanging in my bathroom might no longer be "a little bit special". Irrespective of how I feel about the brand, I love the stunning decal window treatment. Missoni for Target pop up 1065 Sixth Ave, Manhattan.  Via nyclovesnyc.blogspot.com

Nicole by night & day

Nicole Fahri's window caught my eye one evening and was just as striking by daylight.

On the Tube

I stepped  out of the Covent Garden Tube and spotted a You Tube inspired window. All the props are cardboard on struts. Simple and  effective VM at Oasis.

Advantage Nike / Love Selfridges

If you haven't got centre court seats for Wimbledon whilst you are in London then pull up a nice padded cushion at Selfridges and settle in for a set or two. Nike has created the Ultralounge in the lower-ground floor, an immersive retail experience where you can kick back and watch the game, customise your own polo (a numbered edition, available that day) or just buy the kit that Raffa and Roger like to win in. This pop-up is only in town for the tournament and will be finito after the finals. You've got until 3 July folks. Via Tennis-Buzz.com

A real purler…

Sportsgirl has taken the chill off Melbourne's winter with a clever, colourful knitted installation of woodland characters. Designed by the uber-talented Amanda Henderson and her team at Gloss Creative, it has been nothing short of an absolute shopper stopper. I've noticed plenty of people taking happy snaps (I even managed to snap one of them for you!).  Sportsgirl, Chadstone.
