Taxi typography

Loved the cool taxi top graphics when I was in Toyko.  Nice customer service too ... from which our yellow cab crew in Melbourne could learn a clue or two.

Cup of tea, Bex & a good lie down anyone?

As a general rule I only post things I've actually 'been & seen' but this chocolate Barcelona couch I spotted on artinfo.com was too good not to offer you a slice.

"Walking closer, one realized that the couch was made of chocolate, each pleat, button, and stitch lovingly rendered with a thick coating that looked  eerily like leather. As the maid sliced into the couch, she revealed the glorious truth: a moist, buttery layer cake with hints of cream, coffee, and liquor buried inside. The pillow was even softer, fashioned from an airy angel food cake spiked with vanilla. Viewers had difficulty deciding whether to stare or eat, but quickly settled on the latter." As reported on www.artinfo.com/let them eat art

Kiwi goodness

My friend Mike Murphy is the man behind the brand, the coffee roaster, the worm farm and the commitment to sustainability that is KoKaKo.  Drop into the cafe for a great coffee and some gluten free goodness next time you are in Auckland.  492 Parnell Rd, Parnell www.kokako.co.nz

Note @ August 2010: Since listing this story in March, Mike has sold the Parnell Rd cafe.  He has a new pop up espresso bar in downtown Auckland and continues to roast up a storm on the bean scene.

Will’s fat pig

Williamsburg NYC.  Am loving this beer and bbq hall I spotted on www.eater.com.  Beer tap handles made from Butcher's knives and a huge wall graphic that is a cut above some others I've seen.  I have just promised myself I'm off to NYC before the year is out!

Jam jars from Japan?

Lots of quirky light fittings with a 'found object' feel have emerged over the past few years.  Loved these light-filled preserving jars just hanging about at Superdry.  At first glance you might think this is a Japanese denim brand that dries faster than you can say sashimi.  Actually it's British.  They've opened at "Chad-Vegas" (in more formal language that would be Chadstone - The Fashion Capital, Melbourne).

Some single origin syphoning goin’ on

Salvatore Malatesta from St Ali shows off his syphoned, single origin substances with style (I'm talking coffee here).  Sensory Lab @ David Jones, Lt Collins Street Melbourne.

Kitchen dishes it up in a big way

The Big Group likes to do things in a really big way.  Their big new gorgeous cafe can be found at Chadstone sitting alongside  Tiffany's.  Whilst diamonds might be the-girl-next-door's best friend I say the fresh raspberry couveture chocolate brownie is better than carat cake anyday.  Go check it out...

Baker rises again

bomboloni

This little loaf of loveliness has risen again in time for Easter.  My tip is to ditch the cheap chockie eggs and delve into Daniel's delicious nougat instead. Easter is still a couple of weeks away but don't let that stop you dropping in for the best Bomboloni in town before the bunny arrives. You can find this perky little pop up in Crossley St Melbourne (Becco / Gingerboy territory). Thanks to Daniel for the chat and snap opp. Word on the street is that there is another retail bun in the oven which is due soon (Nonda Katsalidis' Little Hero building). Graphics by P.A.M. (Perks & Mini). Ooh I love Melbourne (and these bomboloni!)
