Window washers at Evelina Children's Hospital in London must wear a superhero costume (it's written into their contract apparently). That's clever and right on brand. Spotted on Pinterest.
Super idea
Nicole by night & day
Nicole Fahri's window caught my eye one evening and was just as striking by daylight.
The case at hand … the verdict
I discovered James Plumb when I discovered the Hostem store in Shoreditch late last year. Here is one of JP's recent assemblages spotted at Spazio Rosanna Orlandi (another wonderful discovery). I think my only comment about the 'make do and mend' trend is that when you see it all over TopShop I think its time for a new one (trend that is) (although the way TS incorporated a large column into their found objects installation on their Oxford St store was quite impressive ... I will dig out those pics and post them for you).
Screamingly good
London's hottest icecream brand and with good reason. After a super successful pop up in Selfridges they've set up shop somewhere in Soho/Covent Garden (soz, can't remember the street name but you'll find it on the web site if you need it).
On the Tube
I stepped out of the Covent Garden Tube and spotted a You Tube inspired window. All the props are cardboard on struts. Simple and effective VM at Oasis.
Advantage Nike / Love Selfridges
If you haven't got centre court seats for Wimbledon whilst you are in London then pull up a nice padded cushion at Selfridges and settle in for a set or two. Nike has created the Ultralounge in the lower-ground floor, an immersive retail experience where you can kick back and watch the game, customise your own polo (a numbered edition, available that day) or just buy the kit that Raffa and Roger like to win in. This pop-up is only in town for the tournament and will be finito after the finals. You've got until 3 July folks. Via Tennis-Buzz.com
They’re raven about it…
I was looking for a specific mosaic tile and got distracted by this instead. Ravensbourne College (Digital Media & Design School) is right next door to The O2 (a.k.a the dud ex-Millenium Dome) on the Greenwich peninsula, which is just a javelin throw from London's 2012 Olympic Park. Foreign Office Architects picked up an RIBA gong 2011 for their dramatic design. Via Freshome.
Serving it up
Tracey Neuls dishes up rather delicious handmade shoes. If you want to feast on this fab foot ware you need to go to 25 Marylebone Lane, London.
Snag tag line
Spotted this sizzling-sausage-to-go shop just near Embankment in London. The simplicity of the branding and tag line sold me!
Love is in the air / cash is in the till
Royal Wedding buzz wasn't quite at fever pitch whilst I was in London late March but it was certainly building and retailers were making the most of the pending nuptials. "Middleton Blue" was the fashion colour of the moment. Lots of variations of the engagement dress featured in high end designer windows along New Bond Street as well as department stores around the corner on Oxford. Amongst the sea of tacky souveniers I spotted a couple of cute ones that stood out from the landfill. A beautiful set of iced biscuits in commemorative tin (around the 40 pound mark from memory) and the very silly 'Knit your own Royal Wedding' book had just arrived in store the very day I went to Liberty. I thought this was just waaaay too much fun so I bought it for my mum (she being a Pom and all). I hope she knits me a Corgi!
