Bye bye Banksy

According to tonight's 6pm news a clueless cleaner has painted over a Banksy in one Melbourne's laneways.  I guess if you're a cleaner and not a curator these things happen.  The news story reminded me that I took lots of pics of graffiti art in Barcelona because it seemed to express the essence of this design driven, vibrant city.    I also spotted this paper-cut girl hiding in an alcove in Niagra Lane (Melbourne) last week.   Whilst it might be illegal to paint and post such work, it contributes to making our cities interesting, savvy and unexpected.

I want a pony

Damn fine poached eggs, red pepper pesto and hazelnut dukka with a side of delish mushies. The McPony was McFabulous according to my dining companion and not that much more expensive than a McBreakfast muffin from you know where.   Snow Pony is a bit of a show pony.  Surprisingly it's in boring old Balwyn (95 Whitehorse Rd).  It's worth the ride from wherever you are... giddy up.

Hawthorn’s dark horse

Designer dresses, bags and bling are Silvana Tedesco's thing.  She stocks NZ and Australian fashion as well as imported threads in her new store. She was so nice to a snooping stranger that I thought I'd share this with you. Tedesco the Third, 142 Auburn Rd, Auburn Village in Hawthorn.

Have you met Miss Jones?

Scarlet Jones stocks this stunning French fashion label along with lots of other vintage bits and imported designer bobs (I'm talking clothes, not hair cuts). Scarlet Jones is tucked under the railway bridge in Auburn Village, 95 Auburn Rd, Hawthorn East. Images via Lilith

Detailed woodwork + white and light.  This flagship projects, reflects and plays a surprise hand in the store style stakes.  Via Phillip Lim.

Working windows

In Pod4Cast#7 I gave the new look Sussan, unveiled at Westfield Doncaster, a big wrap.  This brand has continued to evolve over the past 18 months and the  VM for VIP stores only gets better. I spotted the Bourke St windows earlier in the week and the flagship store at Chadstone today.   It's great to see a mainstream Australian retail brand investing in the store experience.  I would love to know the % sales lift in stores where they really work the windows and floor.  BTW ... Mothers Day is only a few weeks away, I spied some  great jim jams and girly treats if you're looking for a gift clue.

I sea she said…

Love the name, graphics, brand dialog and look that is Sea Circus; a new restaurant in Seminyak. Melbourne-based designer, Georgina O'Connor, is the interiors ringmaster who has collaborated with French-born, Bali local Charles Pelletier.  Graphic designer, Nick Cox has jumped through hoops to create a playful identity. According to Georgina they serve fab fish and chips to the nearby beach (collect a helium balloon, that serves as a table number, so they know where to deliver them - how much fun is that!). Stuart Marsden (ex Cecconi's, Melbourne) is in charge of the menu.  If you're in Bali then owners, Josh Herdman & Charlotte Hunton, will give you front row seats if you mention the POD.
