Cheesy grin

Couldn't resist re-posting these fabulous, colourful, clever, unexpected and limited edition tents from Field Candy. Made in the UK, these canvas creations are the result of creative collaborations with some big hitters on the world design stage. If you're going to Glastonbury, Badminton or Blenheim then I guess this is one way to find your camping spot in a sea of sameness. Via The Coolhunter.

High & Dry

Studio Equator has contemporized the dry cleaning and formal hire category. Am loving the freshly pressed new design they have delivered at Westfield Fountain Gate. Again, thanks to Carlos and the SE crew for the pics. Via StudioEquator. Photography by Anne-Sophie Poirier.

Taking the time for customer service

Stage 1 Westfield Fountain Gate redevelopment opened last Thursday. Anybody in the know knows there are always last minute challenges in the count down to any opening. Within 3 hours of team POD getting on the phone to find a temporary staging solution the seriously good crew at Staging Rentals were on site and installing a 5 metre wall and dais for us to dress (no small feat considering it needed to be painted and the drive from their warehouse to the shopping centre consumed 45 minutes of this time frame).

With a temporary VM space in place the POD bods (that would be me, RG Productions and Comer & King) took ourselves off to KMART and found these fab clocks ($10 each!) and some white sneakers we nailed to the floor for the purpose of stopping enthusiastic short people running across the platform.  We had it all installed just as the paint was drying.

Normally I wouldn't mention such a mini VM fix but I am telling you this because the customer service at KMART Fountain Gate was fantastic. Having recently experienced an appalling "service" moment at a Myer store (so offensive I promptly put down the $600 I was about to spend and walked out of the store). The contrast between the two moments could not have been greater.  I can't remember the name of the 'meet and greet' lady working the night shift at KMART but she went and found me a trolley, the young lad who 'heard' there was a lady in a lime green safety vest in the store looking for cookie jars tracked me down in the aisles and helped me find more stock, the young girl at the self serve check out who took great interest as to why I was buying 16 clocks and enquired if she could help carry them to where they were going (how nice is that?!). Great attitude and a fab floor team - go KMART F/Gate!

It’s your call

See, like, want, need, scan, sold, sent. Sportsgirl on Chapel St and Woolies on Flinders St Station tap into the app market.

They’ve got the local market cornered

The corner store cafe in Toowong is where the locals queue for a casual weekend brekkie. You can lob up in your lycra or go all out and pop on some lippy before you down that latte.  It's as cute as a button and it has its own veggie patch for the kids (and kitchen brigade) to explore.  Tanya Lea is pictured here with her camera.  She is a very good person to know. Tan is the queen of organisation and systems and can sort an office into shape in no time (or wardrobe, kitchen, garage etc). She has just launched a new blog ... www.declutterhome.com.au ... and has done a great job for me on various 'sorting and systems' projects over the past 2 years so I thought I'd share her services with you.  Tan is based in Melbourne, the Corner Store Cafe is at 113 Sylvan Road Toowong Brisbane.

Meet ‘Mini Fu’

Regular readers will have noticed a distinct lack of stories over the past few months. Firstly may I say there is only so much a single white woman can do in a day (yes, I've been more than busy with work to say the least and some things just have to go on the back burner). Fortunately I have found a fab new POD person to help out. With Charmaine's assistance the blog should be well and truly back on the boil!

A little birdie told me…

Ivy + Bird is a collective of local, hand made and niche homewares, jewelry and bits & bobs. It also includes a seamstress service stashed away up on the mezzanine level. A v. cute range of cotton dresses for little birdies is sold under their Little People label. You can find Ivy+Bird at 164 Arthur Street, New Farm.

Brotherhood books

Sometimes I wonder if I need a cane in addition to my glasses? Apparently this bookstore has been open for 15 months and can be found right around the corner from where I lived for over 20 years. The Brotherhood of St Lawrence had a backlog of books in their donations warehouse and spotted a niche opportunity. They own the building so closed down the general 'op shop' offer and re-opened with a specialised concept and v. cool fit out to shift their second hand books. Prices range from $1 to $7 with a sprinkling of rare books at more relevant prices. If you can't make it to 215 Glenferrie Rd Malvern then you can buy on-line (we all know Op Shops are hip and they have reinvented themselves in recent years but this one takes the category to another level).  DEA Interiors did the design ... and what a nice job they've made of it (love the central tree structure). The super nice lady behind the counter on Saturday was so helpful and seriously passionate about her product. Vote with your feet, or mouse, and support this fab social enterprise. It's right next door to Grill'd.
